Cessnock City Council is excited to announce Microchipping Month of May giving residents the opportunity to get their dog microchipped for FREE.

The initiative organised by Council’s Ranger team aims to see every dog in the Cessnock Local Government Area (LGA) microchipped.Ranger Team Leader, Kurt Livens encouraged residents to take advantage of the free event and get your best mate microchipped.

“Microchipping your pet is important because without one it is very hard for rangers to quickly locate and reunite owners with their lost pets," Ranger Livens said.

The event this year is a little different as it extends across four Thursday’s in May and will be held at dog parks throughout the LGA.

Ranger Livens hopes the new format will gives residents more opportunity to attend as they now have a number of dates to choose from.

“We always have such a great response from the community for the free microchipping event and we have worked to make the event more flexible."

A pet must microchipped by 12 weeks of age, at point of sale or when they are given away in order to comply with the law.
