Millfield Public School about to get their garden blitzed!
Community groups, schools and preschools
across the Cessnock Local Government Area had the chance of getting their
garden a much needed makeover in the first ever Garden Organics Garden Blitz.
The judges had a very tough job, with many inspiring and creative applications received from community groups, schools and preschools. Congratulations Millfield Public School who will be getting the magic touch of a professional green thumb.
The garden overhaul will be focused around transforming an underutilised space in the school into a feature to be enjoyed by students, teachers, parents and the wider community. The bare gardens and grass will be reinvented into a welcoming and relaxing area, complementing the colourful and vibrant learning environment of the classrooms.
Millfield Public School, Principal Benjamin Durie is excited by the announcement and said the Garden Blitz will happen at a very fitting time.
“Our school community will soon celebrate our
150th anniversary since it opened its gates. This will be a fantastic way to
celebrate and mark this important milestone. The overhaul of this space will
add to our already flourishing culture, providing us with an area promoting
environmental sustainability and native habitats.”
Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent
visited the site and congratulated the school.
“The Garden Blitz is such a great way to
promote our Garden Organics Service and in this case will highlight the service
to our young people. It’s completing the cycle from their gardens organic bin
to the garden bed as the mulch and soil conditioner used for the project will
be from our Garden Organics Service.”
Council looks forward to visiting Millfield Public School once the project is complete. To find out more about your Garden Organics Service visit www.yourorganicsbin.com.au/.
