Community Announcement Frame Drive Bridge, Abermain Opening
City Council announced Frame Drive Bridge, Abermain will open on Wednesday 1
The ribbon cutting will be held in the morning with the bridge set to be opened to all road users and pedestrians from around 1pm.
The replacement of the wooden bridge followed the structure being deemed unsafe after it suffered substantial damage in the April 2015 storm event.
The new bridge has an open load limit, two way travel and pedestrian walk ways on both sides. Cessnock City Council has reaffirmed its commitment to working with Roads and Maritime Services on road safety issues on surrounding access roads.
Funding for the replacement of the Frame Drive structure was set aside in Council’s 2015–16 budget to undertake investigation and preliminary design works, ensuring the project was shovel-ready in October 2016.
The Australian Government provided $2 million towards the project under Round Two of the Bridges Renewal Programme. The Programme upgrades and repairs bridges to enhance access for local communities and facilitate higher productivity vehicle access and provides up to 50 per cent of the total cost of the project.
