Cessnock City Council has received funding from the Office of Local Government for its desexing program to promote responsible pet ownership in the local government area.

To be eligible for this free service you must:

  • reside in the Cessnock city local government area
  • are able to travel to Rutherford RSPCA—6-10 Burlington Place Rutherford, NSW, 2320
  • be available from 24 February on Tuesdays or Thursdays for an appointment
  • have your pet microchipped and vaccinated, and
  • hold a pension or seniors card.

Council will partner with the RSPCA to assist the community with free desexing for their cat or dog.

This free service is available to pensioner and senior citizen cardholders and is not open to breeders or welfare groups.

Council’s Health and Building Manager Colin Davis said the Ranger Team is excited to roll out this program.

“This free initiative is a fantastic opportunity aimed to reduce the high number of puppies and kittens needing to be rehomed,” Mr Davis said.

“We encourage all residents to participate in responsible pet ownership and desexing your companion animal is vital.”

Residents are limited to one pet per application as a limited number of bookings are available.

To fill out your registration form visit Cessnock City Council’s administration building, 62-78 Vincent Street Cessnock.
