Cessnock City Council is holding a community workshop at the Wollombi Community Hall to discuss the Wollombi Valley Total Flood Warning System Options Report.

Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent encouraged the Wollombi community to take advantage of this workshop and information session.

“We are seeking community input on the options outlined in the report and this is also a chance for the community to ask question about the report and the next steps,” Cr Pynsent said.

Council developed the Wollombi Valley Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan in 2012 to understand local flood risks and develop strategies to minimise these risks.

One of the key recommendations of the study was the development of a flood warning system in Wollombi.

In 2016 Council received a NSW Floodplain Management grant for the design of a flood warning system for the benefit of Wollombi and upstream catchments.
