Cessnock City Council is urging residents to avoid the Richmond Vale Railway Museum and surrounds following yesterday’s bush fire event seeing the site severely damaged.

The Rural Fire Service (RFS) is currently overseeing the area and has declared the site a ‘Fire Ground’.  An exclusion zone is now being enforced, and no one, including members of the public, volunteers and media, can enter the site without consent from the RFS.

Investigations are being carried out by emergency personnel and safety experts to determine the full extent of the damage.

Security is stationed at the site, alongside police to ensure the area remains secure until deemed safe.

The Fire and Rescue NSW HAZMAT Unit also inspected the grounds to ensure any existing safety risks are identified and addressed.

This is a huge loss for our community, in particular for the dedicated volunteers who have worked tirelessly for many years to preserve our railway and mining heritage.
