Registration is now open for Clean Up Australia Day, including a full list of clean-up sites in the Cessnock Local Government Area, which is being held on Sunday 5 March 2017.

Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent said litter remains a concern in our community and we can all do our bit for the local environment.

“Clean Up Australia Day is an opportunity to not only pick up rubbish but also increase awareness about littering and the negative impacts it has”, Cr Pynsent said.

On Clean Up Australia Day last year a huge 10.16 tonnes of rubbish was collected across 12 sites across the local area, the aim this year is to surpass last year’s efforts.

Cessnock City Council is pleased once again to support registered sites through waste collection and waiving of landfill fees.

Residents are reminded normal fees apply for all material received at the Cessnock Waste and Reuse Centre (Cessnock Landfill) on Clean Up Australia Day unless it is from a registered site.

If you, your school, business or organisation is interested in registering a Clean Up Australia Day site, registration can be made at www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au, or by contacting contact Debbie Kellehear on 02 4993 4167 or email Deborah.Kellehear@cessnock.nsw.gov.au.

Cessnock City Council asks that all rubbish at registered sites be bagged and not exceed 20 kilograms per bag. A full list of local sites is available at http://www.cessnock.nsw.gov.au/environment/initiatives.
