Celebrating Yesteryear

Cessnock City Council is celebrating History Week 2016 and the theme is neighbours, where we’ll be looking at the colonial era of the Cessnock District and the importance of community.

Local historian Carl Hoipo and Stuart Gibson will be at Cessnock City Library talking about our early settlers, the first hotels and rural industries that forged the community we know today.

Cessnock City Council General Manager, Stephen Glen said this region has such a rich history and is one of Australia’s earliest settlements.

“Recently Council adopted a Heritage policy that will guide the maintenance and restoration period properties, helping to preserve the heritage character of the area for future generations to enjoy”.

“The presentation at Cessnock Library is a great opportunity for the community to learn more about the people, places and jobs that created Cessnock and its surrounds” said Mr Glen.
