School children across the Cessnock region have been caught up in the magical land of literature this week as the Cessnock City Library toured local schools ahead of Book Week 2016.

The visits are part of a special ‘Book Week Roadshow’ showcasing the stories shortlisted by the Children’s Book Council of Australia as the best of Australian children’s literature for 2016.

Cessnock City Council General Manager, Stephen Glen said reading is a wonderful pastime and our local libraries are full of incredible stories and interesting information.

“The Book Week Roadshow is another way for us to share a love of books and reading with local children and young adults”, Mr Glen said.

Students enjoyed entertaining presentations that combined reading, book dramatizations, audience participation, props, music, imagination and usually a fair bit of silliness.

Book Week 2016 will be held between 20-26th August and this year the theme is Australia! Story Country.
