Community collaboration shines again!

Cessnock City Council has been shortlisted as a finalist in the 2016 Local Government Awards following another outstanding Youth Week.

Cessnock City Council has been shortlisted as a finalist in the 2016 Local Government Awards following another outstanding Youth Week.

The 2016 Cessnock Youth Week Organising Committee has been nominated for the Best Local Youth Week Program 2016, planning and delivering over 18 events and activities.

Youth participation in the event reached an all-time high with 1800 young people engaged and entertained by the various activities, which marks a 10 year record.

Cessnock City Council’s Youth Week is already recognised as one of the best in Australia as the Committee took out the Most Innovative Youth Week Program at the 2014 Local Government Awards.

Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent said this is a credit to the dedicated people at Council and in the community.

“The success of this event relies on the commitment and dedication of individuals in the community who want to see our young people flourish”, Cr Pynsent said.

“I congratulate everyone involved, you really do an outstanding job in working together to make this event such a success. This nomination is a reflection of your hard work”.

The 2016 Youth Week was a collaborative effort between community organisations, local businesses, the Cessnock Youth Entertainment Committee and other local young people.

The variety and range of events on offer would not be possible without the valuable contribution of young people.

The Local Government Awards will be held on August 4 at the Grace Hotel, Sydney, NSW.
