Spring Awakening 2018
A night of magic and spectacle, an illuminated wonderland! Come and experience a night of fire and light with family and friends in a FREE family event to celebrate the arrival of spring!
For generations, communities the world over have come together to celebrate the end of winter and the beginning of spring. Cessnock is no exception, with Spring Awakening back for its sixth year! Warm yourself amongst flaming sculptures and be intrigued by interactive installations. This year we're excited to announce that the world-renowned JUNKYARD BEATS will be bringing their dynamic rhythm show to the Spring Awakening stage, with a series of high-energy routines that include body percussion, fire drumming, junk percussion, and hilarious skits. Their family friendly show draws on inspiration from everyday life, the streets and the junkyard, and is filled with imagination, humour and a LOT of rhythm.
As well as live entertainment on our main stage, there’ll be roving performers and creative activities for kids, along with surprises for the whole family! Pack a picnic or select a delicious treat from one of our hand-picked gourmet food trucks and soak up the atmosphere. The Spring Awakening festival will be located at Cessnock TAFE Campus on Darwin Street, Cessnock.
Come along early to participate in the ever growing lantern parade, departing from Cessnock Performing Arts Centre and continuing in a dazzling procession via Vincent Street all the way to the TAFE grounds. Don’t forget the parade will leave at 5.30pm sharp!
Use the hashtag #SA18Cessnock to share your photos of the event on Instagram and Facebook!
In the lead up to the festival, our local libraries will be hosting free lantern making workshops. Come along to Cessnock Library on Monday, 3 September between 3:30 - 5pm, or Kurri Kurri Library on Tuesday 4 September between 3:30 to 5pm. All materials will be supplied. If you can’t make it to the workshops and want to get an early start decorating your lantern, we have some great ones just waiting to be turned into wondrous creations for sale at the Performing Arts Centre now.
