Nominations are now open for the 2018 Australia Day Awards and Cessnock City Council is calling on the community to nominate locals who deserve to be recognised.

There are a number of award categories to choose from including Citizen of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Community Event, Sports, Environment, Heritage, along with Achievement and Appreciation Awards.

Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent looks forward to the Australia Day Awards every year as they are a chance to recognise those who are dedicated to our community.

“We are lucky to have so many people in our community who are willing to give up their time to make our city a better place and these awards are a great opportunity to celebrate their achievements.”

“If you know someone who has made an outstanding contribution in one of the categories, make sure you get your nomination in before they close on Monday 11 December 2017,” added Cr Pynsent.

Official nomination forms and selection criteria can be found on Cessnock City Council’s website at www.cessnock.nsw.gov.au/community/events-ceremonies/australiaday.

The winners will be announced at a Civic Reception held on Australia Day. More details about the event will be released closer to the date. For more information, visit www.cessnock.nsw.gov.au/community/events-ceremonies/australiaday
