Last year, Australians reported losses of a whopping $300 million to scams, so to help locals become scam aware, Cessnock Library is hosting a workshop next Friday 28 July.

There are thousands of scams out there including phishing, identity theft, false billing, unexpected prizes and the list goes on. Many scams originate from outside Australia and once money is sent overseas, it is virtually impossible to recover.

With this mind, you’re invited to come and hear Kate Leso from NSW Fair Trading speak about how to protect yourself from scams, what to do if a scammer contacts you and how to report it.

The Be Scam Aware Workshop will kick off at 10.30am and run through to 12.30pm and Library Services Coordinator, Rose-marie Walters encourages locals to come along.

“Scams are designed to trick you into giving away your money or your details and they succeed because they look like the real thing.

This is an important workshop for all members of the community.” This is a free event with tea, coffee and biscuits provided, but bookings are essential. Reserve your place today by calling the Cessnock Library team on 4993 4399.
