Selection Process

Your application will be acknowledged by letter within 2 days of it being received at Council.

Applicants shortlisted for interview will be contacted by phone within 14 days of the advertised closing date. If you do not want to be contacted at work please make a note of this on Part A of the application form and provide alternate contact details.

Interviews are conducted in a panel format with usually 3 - 4 panel members. Applicants are asked a series of structured questions which focus on the requirements of the position. The interview questions usually require applicants to provide specific examples of how they demonstrated particular criteria in the work setting.

Reference checks are only conducted for applicants who have been interviewed and who's application is being seriously considered for selection. Only those referees nominated will be contacted. 

All unsuccessful applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application

The preferred applicant will be contacted verbally for the appropriate pre-employment checks to be undertaken

For example:

  • Working with Children Check
  • Police Criminal Check
  • Medical including functional assessment for some positions.

An offer of employment is made subject to the outcome of the pre-employment checks, this will be made in the form a formal letter with appropriate attachments and supporting documents. 

When accepting an offer of employment the applicant is required to complete and return the letter of acceptance which is included with the letter of offer.
