Rachel Main was first elected as an Independent councillor to Cessnock City Council in 2004 at the age of 24. She was subsequently re-elected in 2008. Rachel has served as a Ward A councillor for both of these terms.

Rachel is a high school Music teacher and has spent time teaching in all four of the local government area’s high schools. She has also spent time teaching SRE at both Mount View and Kurri Kurri High Schools. A particular passion of Rachel’s is the Shine program for young high school girls, a program aimed at teaching young women about their worth, value and purpose, and which Rachel has facilitated as a volunteer at Cessnock High School for over four years.

Rachel moved to Cessnock in 1999 when she married her husband Luke and has given birth to three children since being elected to Council.
