Youth Week 2012 If you would like the chance to perform on stage in front of a crowd - then look no further than Youth Week’s 2012 Open Mic Night! All performers are encouraged to enter the competition and show off their different talents. This can include bands, solo acts, duets, drama, comedy, circus or dancing. Spectators are invited to attend the event to join in on the fun; entry is free for both performers and audience members.
As part of youth week, we are giving you the chance to learn tips and techniques on how to create a fine espresso latte by one of Newcastle’s most renowned coffee roasters and makers, SPROKET ROASTERS! There are great prizes up for grabs for those who make the best brew, including a barista course! There are great runner-up prizes too! This is an opportunity for you to learn the art of coffee and will give you the confidence when applying for positions in hospitality. Van on the Run activities include van artworks in which you can create your own 3D design using a template of the van; gift vouchers could be won for participation. There will also be cameras so you can use your imagination to take photographs of the van in various positions around the skate park. The photos will be made into a mosaic artwork which will be showcased at CYCOS. There’ll also be a BBQ lunch!
BELLY-DANCING for beginners! Anne Dunston, of Eastern Spirit Bellydancing, will be leading this introductory workshop. No previous experience necessary – come along and learn the basics of this ancient and beautiful dance style – who knows, it could be the beginning of a whole new adventure!

Are you an anime and manga enthusiast, who would like to try their hand at creating some of those characters for yourself? You’ll be provided with the tools to create your own characters in this distinctive Japanese cartooning style which has taken the world by storm.

Are you between the ages of 12-18, have a passion for cooking and dreamed about being a Chef, but never had the opportunity? Well now is your chance!! As part of Youth Week 2012, we’re giving you the opportunity to be part of our Youth Chef Challenge. You will able to test your cooking skills in a real commercial kitchen decked out with your very own chef apron and hat. Compete for some amazing prizes!! Including training opportunities. This will be a fun day with local chefs, good food and lots of laughs. You don’t need to be a great cook, just have a passion for food. There will be guessing ingredient competitions, tastings and team cooking challenges. All welcome - bring your friends and family.
Youthfest is a fun filled, action packed youth festival, presented by the Cessnock Youth Entertainment Committee, Cessnock Youth Development Project and Cessnock Youth Centre and Outreach Service. This year’s event features; live bands performing, stalls, art activities and a scooter bike and skate competition. Entry to the event as well as entry in the competition is FREE and there are great prizes.
