Fire SafetyThe Environmental Planning and Assessment Regulation 2000 contains a list of statutory fire safety measures that may be installed in a building and also specifies inspection, maintenance and certification requirements.
In general buildings that are used for business, tourist accommodation, commercial or industrial that have been constructed, renovated or had a change of use since 1988 are included in Council's Fire Safety Register. These building owners are required to maintain the essential fire safety measures and report this maintenance in the form of an Annual Fire Statement to Council and the NSW Fire & Rescue.
Essential fire safety measures may include fire extinguishers, fire hose reels, exit signs, emergency lighting, etc. If you need assistance in identifying the fire safety measures within your building or have any other questions in relation to fire safety please contact Council's Fire Safety Officers on 4993 4100.
A copy of the Annual Fire Statement Form or a Final Fire Safety Certificate Form can be obtained from Building application forms.
There is new legislation regarding the requirement to install smoke alarms in these structures and vehicles.
All sleeping areas in a movable dwelling must now have a smoke detector installed.
Installing these devices could save your family's life!
